Experience/Remarks
I am an English Specialist who had taught lower sec English and English Literature at Maris Stella High (Secondary). I have a letter of commendation from the school principal, Brother Anthony, in recognition of dedicated service.
I was previously with Times Publishing Limited and Educational Publishing House as a senior editor, specializing in the publication of textbooks as well as assessment books.Part of the scope of my work involved liasing with the Ministry of Education to ensure correct content of school textbooks. I have also held positions such as Public Relations Manager and Hotel Marketing Communications Manager. All these years of working experience as well as the courses I had taken at the National University of Singapore have instilled in me the discipline and skill to practise the use of correct English at all times.
Currently, I'm tutoring a Pri 4 boy in creative writing, 3 children (P4, P5 and P6) in English/Science as well as a P6 girl and a P2 boy in English. On top of this, I'm also mentoring 2 girls in Upper Sec English and two Sec 2 students. My past students include a Sec 4 boy (for English/English Literature), a Sec 1 boy and a Sec 3 girl (for English) as well as an adult (for conversational English). I''m also conducting P3/P4 science enrichment classes at Ai Tong Pri Sch. I enjoyed GP in college and, as I read widely, would relish imparting my knowledge to interested pre-university students as well.
Commitment Level
Tutoring full-time and writing on a freelance basis constitute what I do now as this gives me the flexibility to spend more time with my children. Besides, I love teaching as well as nurturing young minds and so would aspire to teach as long as I can.
My students have generally responded well to my method of teaching and this has greatly helped them in understanding their subjects as well as improving their school grades. In addition, it is my practice to provide constant feedback to parents with regards to their children's progress. This rapport is important as it provides the stimulus for my students to acquire knowledge beyond their school textbooks.
I have a mature overview of life, so good values and morals are important to me. I am also responsible, meticulous, resourceful, organised as well as result-oriented and will endeavour to do my best to ensure that my students make good progress in their studies. I believe that every student is different, so will modify teaching method accordingly to ensure productive learning.
Being a mother myself, I understand the challenges faced by parents in engaging good and reliable tutors for their children in this very demanding and competitive education landscape. Hence, I will also make it a practice to enhance my lessons with value-added materials and draw on my experience to make learning fun and a natural process.
