Experience/Remarks
I have tutored a JC 2 student in H2 Economics for 6 months and her results improved from a D to a C. I am currently tutoring a polytechnic student in an Economics module.
Although I do not have a wealth of experience with other subjects like Maths and Sciences, I am still able to explain the concepts and techniques in them with relative ease. I owe this to the peer-tutoring I was involved in back during my school days.
I have a strong background in Mathematics as well and was involved in the Mathematical Olympiad during my secondary school days.
I like to provide my personal insights/views on the particular subject I am teaching. In a way, it is merely putting into words what the student might be thinking in his or her mind, which helps the student understand the topic better. By explaining certain concepts using hypothetical examples, my student is able to see it in a different light and hence grasp the concept even better.
I am not an advocate of memorising information, which is time and effort consuming. In today's education world, there are a multitude of application-based questions which a good memory can not help fully answer.
Lastly, I firmly believe that teaching is a two-way thing - the student must first and foremost be willing and committed to learn.
Commitment Level
I can start asap but will be going away for the earlier part of December.
I will leave for studies at University College London, UK to read Economics sometime in August 2009.
