The Top Tutor page has been updated to show more statistics. You will be able to see the top riser and top dropper in ranker. The average ratings and assignments for the top 1000 tutors is now available, together with the tutors with the most number of assignments in the last 30 days and all-time.

Launch of Centre Listing

StarTutor has launched a new section for tuition centre owners to list their tuition centres. You can upload your course information online and it will be fully searcheable by potential parents and students.

Features of Centre Listing:
1. Manage your centre online quickly. Courses can be updated in a single screen or individually. Price is broken down into an hourly charge for you. Set the class size and update the vacancies as student signs up.
2. Automatically puts your centre location on a map and search is done by location. A search for the street name will show up your centre if it is within the radius.
3. Upload classroom photos of your centre for students to see how it will be like and then let them experience it first hand.
4. Convenient sign up form has been provided for you (complete with terms policy) to let students sign up on the spot.
5. Manage multiple branches easily. Customers can easily see your other branches when they see your centre.

IB Rating Updated, Polytechnic Listings Added

We have updated the rating scale for International Baccalaureate by raising the maximum to 4 points. We also raised the minimum score required to get 1 point to 24. The updated score ratings are 24 to 29: 1pt, 30 to 35: 2pt, 35 to 39: 3pt, 40 to 45: 4pt.

Tutors who wish to check the breakdown of their feedback rating, can do so in their tutor account. As the feedback rating is tallied together with the ranking at 12am everyday, changes during the day are not reflected in the total feedback rating immediately.

Also, we have added the list of polytechnics to the school directory to show tutors from these polytechnics.

Tutor Rating System Updated

There are major updates to the tutor rating system that will reward tutors more for the efforts that they put in. With this new system, we have added in a penalty scheme whereby the ratings can go up and also down. You can view the help on the Tutor Rating Table here. We will go through the changes to let you understand our thoughts in designing the rating system.

Qualification Rating (No Change)

We have left the qualification rating untouched. Instead, we have put in a script to check for erroneous rating automatically.

Experience Rating (2 New)

We have added in two more factors that will affect your experience rating. Tutors who left the experience and commitment field of their profile blank will now be penalised -1pt per field. Even if tutors have no prior experience, they should write about themselves. If you write between 500 and 1000 characters, you will be awarded 1pt and 2pts for 1000 characters and above.

Feedback Rating (5 New, 2 Updated)

There are 5 additional factors that can affect your feedback ratings. It is based on how much positive activity you generate with us. For each SMS response (be it accept or reject) we receive from you in the last 90 days, you get +0.1pt.

When indicating districts in your profile, you should indicate 10 districts or less. For each district indicated above the count of 15, you will be penalised -0.1pt. We are preventing tutors from over-indicating their districts to increase their profile coverage and also rejecting request based on far distance.

If you updated schedule or login less than 30 days ago, you get +1pt for each factor. If you login more than 90 days ago, you get penalised -1 to -2pts.

For tutors who have consistently writing progress reports, we are rewarding +0.2 pt per progress report with more than 200 characters. Only progress reports written in the last three months will be considered.

Finally, we made two updates the current factors. For the impression factor, we will cap it both ways at -5 and +5pt. And for the feedback forms, we will adjust it to between -1 to +1pt per feedback.

Afterword

We feel that this new update is much better in many ways. It (1) raises the position of tutors who update their profile more often; (2) takes into account how much effort is taken to write up the profile; (3)Rewards tutors who are consistent in their efforts in getting a assignment and following up with the student after getting the assignments. Overall, the rating system gives the tutors more opportunity if they put in effort.

Computer Skill: Office added

We have added Microsoft Office as a new computer skill based on customer demand. Tutor can now login to indicate their interest in teaching this skill.

Bahasa Indonesia, Tagalog, Hindi and Bengali Added

StarTutor has added four new languages: Bahasa Indonesia, Tagalog, Hindi and Bengali under the requests of our customers. Tutors who are interested in teaching these languages can log in to indicate them now.

School Listing

StarTutor has a new feature that shows you tutors who have graduated from the local schools and universities in Singapore. In the schools directory, you can choose Primary School, Secondary School, Junior College and University. You can view tutors from these schools as we link them according the certificates they uploaded. Tutors can also look up with their old friends by looking for their schools.
